Appearance/Personality: Though he keeps fit enough, Fabien isn't particularly brawny or slender, nor is he overly tall for a D'Angeline man. Yet he manages to exude a presence beyond physical bulk or stature. Certainly more than his average build would belie. Perhaps it is in the confident way he carries himself, or some innate magnetism, the force of personality in those pale eyes. Perhaps in part it comes down to simple aesthetic appeal.
Fabien is not as vain as some, but does have a care for his appearance, taking quiet pride in being well dressed and put together. Keeps himself clean shaven more oft than not, and brunet locks with hints of russet crest in waves about his face, growing lighter in summer months. He has broad, well-molded features. High cheekbones, a strong jaw, and determined chin. His mouth is wide and expressive.
In short, a typically attractive D'Angeline.
It isn't unheard of for him to use that to his advantage. He's quite charismatic and can be devilishly charming when he wants to be. Often with a roguish edge to it. Fabien loves to flirt and toy with people, though he has no real interest in sex. Sometimes it's just for fun, but other times he does so with manipulative purpose. To get what he truly desires, which is rarely what the object of his attention assumes.
That said, he isn't constantly out to use people. Hardly that. His intentions are more often puckish than cruel or cunning. Fabien is outgoing, personable, and can usually get what he's after through charm and business acumen rather than shady tactics. Not that he is unwilling to utilize such means, or only does so when it is strictly necessary.

History: The Arguelles family has held Mouligne for many generations. Lying on the southern coast, it is a small county, but a wealthy and influential one. Many in Eisande, and beyond its shores, make their living at sea. Merchants and traders of all ilk, fishermen, sailors and naval officers, privateers, and so on. What all of them have in common, and none could do without, is a vessel--if not a fleet of them. Mouligne is renown for its shipwrights. From the smallest, swiftest skiff to the grandest galleon, their construction and design are without compare.
While they've certainly not monopolised the entire trade, their little empire is robust and growing in a world that is constantly expanding its horizons. Theirs were amongst the first D'Angeline craft to set out for Terra Nova, a note of particular pride.
Many in the family have some hand in the business. Whether they are themselves shipwrights, engineers, the craftsmen that build the ships, or those that negotiate sales and terms of agreement. Fabien was no different, and from a young age took an interest in learning about each facet in the process. He wasn't the most brilliant of designers, though understood the concepts well enough, nor was he a remarkable craftsman--only a decent laborer, which are ever plentiful. Where his talents really shown was the latter aspects. He had a good head for how it all came together, and a disarming demeanor that served well on the competitive commerce side of things.
His younger siblings, along with a number of their cousins also found their niche in the family business, but none had quite the spark and zeal for it that Fabien did. Among the younger generation of Arguelles, he became somewhat like the face of their clan. As such, the patriarch of the family, an elderly--and childless--uncle called Aimeric Arguelles de Mouligne, took notice.
Having no heirs of his own, but wanting to see to the future of their family, holdings, and enterprise, Aimeric named Fabien his successor and groomed the young man to take his place. Fabien was delighted, and dedicated. While others his age were still searching for themselves, their place, he had found his path.

They were also, most often, too caught up in their own lives and adventures and dalliances to be envious of his fortune. In fact, he was frequently encouraged to relax and take his focus off of work sometimes. To perhaps find a lover. He had well passed his majority and not yet experienced that rite of passage. Nor did he have any particular inclination to.
Most of his family thought Fabien a late bloomer, or too focussed on his work and studies. The truth, however, was that he never met anyone he felt those sorts of desires for. He enjoyed the company of people, and there were a few that he was passing fond of, but his feelings were never carnal so far as he understood it.
Due to social pressures and curiosity, he did eventually experiment with intimate matters. Had trysts and explored relationships with others. Romantic companionship he liked, but when things took a turn for the physical, he always found it lackluster. Especially considering how everyone else apparently felt about it. Eventually, he simply accepted that it was not a need that he shared. He remains willing to bed someone (rarely) if it will appease a partner or get him what he wants, but generally speaking, he much prefers the flirtatious game of seduction to any actual sexual act.
Some think him odd for it, but Fabien isn't bothered. Elua made him as he is and bid him to love as he wills. He loves his family, he loves their land and trade, he loves to negotiate and socialise. He loves a great many things. There is also room in his heart to fall in love with others. So, he does not feel strange or lacking for not loving with his loins. He knows what 'Love as thou wilt' means to him.
The flipside to loving, of course, is the grief of loss.
In the years he spent as Aimeric's protege, Fabien grew very close to his uncle, and mourned him keenly when he succumbed to age and illness. There was still much he felt he could have learned from Aimeric before taking on the mantle of Comte de Mouligne at the age of twenty-three. Even so, Fabien felt determined and ready to take on the host of new responsibilities. To see the Arguelles legacy flourish.
