Appearance: Hafez is a heavy set man, though muscular, and stands at 5'11. His long dark wavy hair hangs part way down his back and frames a face with strong lines. Hafez' eyes are a dark grey that seem to take in all that that he sees. His face usually remains impassive, unless the emotion is severe and then he'll give in to expression, though he has been known to smile on occasion.
Personality: Hafez is a stern man, given to contemplation and deep consideration of all his actions. That isn't to say he can't act immediately and decisively when the occasion calls for it though. He's deeply loyal to his family, particularly his brother who is the Khalif of Khebbel-im-Akkad and takes it as his personal responsibility to protect his family and the throne.
He takes a keen interest in his family and their actions, but has no ambition beyond his current position as Emir.
History: As the younger son, Hafez was never in line to ascend the throne - that was his brother's path in life. Rather than feel slighted or jealous about it, Hafez did his best to become his brother's protector of a sorts, working at his lessons to become the best political ally his brother would need. As they grew older and his brother became Khalif, Hafez was by his side, guarding his brother's position with dedication and diligence.
He's married several wives over the years and has fathered a few children, but none have earned his love and loyalty to match the intensity that he shows for his brother and his nephews, save one. A young woman whom he met, having watched her kill several men with a skill that few of his own soldiers could match. Impressed, he offered her a job, figuring that she could get to places that he could not and thus ensure the protection of his brother even further. He named her Daeva Azari and took her as his mistress. Together they worked to protect the Khalif and in time their relationship became more than a mere employer/employee relationship.
One night, Hafez requested a mission of her, and without a word Daeva disappeared. Little trace of her remained and Hafez has been looking for her ever since, whilst still enacting his duty as his brother's protector. When he finds her....
As time has passed during his brother's reign, Hafez has managed to foil a number of plots to overthrow his brother and his dedication to the task has never wavered, even to the extent of neglecting his own family.
