History:
Subramanian was a Bhodistani sailor working for a wealthy Azzallese merchant, transporting spices from Bhodistan to Terre d'Ange. Celine Thivolle was the daughter of a fisherman. When they met on the docks at the Pointe des Soeurs, it was love at first sight. But they spent several years being lovebirds from afar, as they both earned money on the sea. After four years of long-distance love, they had saved up enough money to start up a household of their own. They purchased a small apartment in the southeastern part of the City of Elua and did the books for a spice merchant there. Within months of their marriage, they began having children - seven in all.
Manette is the fourth child of Celine Thivolle and Subramanian. She grew up happy, though always in hand-me-downs from her older siblings and with only just enough food to satiate the tiny girl. Her parents envisioned their children as being clerks, so Manette spent much of her youth learning arithmetic, reading, and writing. But she soon discovered a love for maps and navigation and, for much of her life, she thought she would be a cartographer or explorer.
But then her sister Marianne died from a freak accident involving a carriage. Marianne had been serving at the Temple of Azza as a bookkeeper, and had whispered to Manette about perhaps becoming an acolyte one day.
The family needed the revenue from Marianne's bookkeeping job, so Manette offered her services to the Temple. Within a year, she had pledged herself to the service of Azza. The priests, priestesses, and her parents all believed that Azza had called to her. She was born of seafarers, had a knack for maps and navigation, and had a streak of pride only rivaled by the Angel himself. But in Manette's heart, she was only serving Azza to honor her elder sister.
Now, she is a full priestess of Azza.
