Appearance: Standing at 6'2, Ionas is a broad shouldered, well built, muscular young man. Ionas takes very much after his Hellene mother in colouring and after his D'angeline father in looks though not stature. His brunette locks are unruly and fall haphazardly in large curls about his head. His thick eyebrows arch above expressive eyes, which are hazel in colour and have thick long eyelashes. Ionas' nose is large, but still in perfect proportion to the rest of his features. His lips are full and plump, easily curved into a smile or pout, depending on the will of his Patron. Ionas' jaw is strong and well defined, and often covered in stubble, though not quite long enough to become a beard, clearly showing that he is not full D'angeline. His skin, true to his Hellas heritage, is of a honeyed complexion, easily tanned and unblemished, save the odd small scar which show up as silver against the darker hue.
Ionas' marque is slightly different to the traditional Valerian design. The overall design is the same, except for the colours. Because of Ionas' skin tone, the flowers in his marque are white and the foliage is of a brighter green so as to stand out better against his colouring.
Personality: Ionas is very submissive and yields easily to those with a stronger personality. That isn't to say that he's shy or timid, far from it, but rather that he wishes to please. He'd much rather give in or compromise than stand up for something he wants if it means pleasing someone else. Ionas is an amiable man, always having a kind word to say about people and makes friends easily, but for all that, he's a fairly private person. When in a conversation you'll find that you talk far more about yourself and hear next to nothing about him. It's not that he's secretive or hiding anything, it's more to do with the fact that he is an attentive listener and prefers to encourage others to talk about themselves, feeling that he has nothing interesting to put forth. If asked, he will venture opinions or talk about himself, he just never thinks to share something voluntarily - only when he knows someone well will he begin to share of his own volition.
Ionas has a quiet sense of humour, gentle teasing being his forte, mostly with his closest friends and his little sister. Nothing malicious or mean will leave his lips as a rule and if he does say something unkind then it is something to take note of. He has a phobia of all things creepy crawly (he will squeal like a little girl when confronted with one) but absolutely adores cats.
He is deeply loyal to his friends and Patrons, refusing to talk about the latter even to his close friends and he's very affectionate. He loves to hold hands and exchange kisses with those he favours, or those who favour him, if they'll let him of course.
He holds quiet pride in himself, in his abilities and training, though never enough to hold it over anyone else. He's always willing to learn and also pass on his own knowledge.
History: Ionas is the product of a liason between a D'angeline adept and a Hellene woman. His father was a Cereus adept, named Souvalle, and as a blonde and blue-eyed beauty he was a draw to Melina, a young Hellene woman who was visiting Terre D'ange on a diplomatic journey. She lay with Souvelle several times over the months she was in Elua, and just before she was due to return to Hellas, she found she was with child. Seeing as she was an up and coming figure in the political spheres of Hellas, she did not wish to keep the child and return to Hellas as a single mother. Instead, she remained in Elua for the term of her pregnancy and gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She named him Ionas and took him to Cereus, requesting a meeting with Souvalle. The meeting was granted and after a long talk that took up half the day, she left without her baby never looking back. Souvelle never saw or heard from her again. With the Dowayne's permission he took Ionas in and raised him as his own, with the understanding that the child be tried for Cereus or one of the other Houses. When Ionas was two, Souvalle married his love and they had a child a year later, who was as different to Ionas as it was possible to get. She was very much a Cereus child, as fair as he was dark. His stepmother did not think much of having to raise another woman's child as her own and so did not bond with Ionas as much as she could have done, but she looked after him well enough and Ionas and Cheyenne grew up together, with Ionas doting on his sister. By the time Ionas was six, it was clear that he would never fit into Cereus. He looked too different, too dark of skin, hair and eye, clearly taking more after his Hellene mother than his father and since that was the case, he was considered for Jasmine. However, he took the spiced candy test of the Valerian House and passed it and so it was to Valerian he went.
As Ionas grew, it seemed that Valerian was the right choice for him. He was a submissive and gentle child, growing into a submissive and gentle adult. He delighted in pleasing his Patrons, capitulating easily to their demands, orders and whims. His Patrons, some drawn by his exotic looks, some drawn by his overly submissive nature, were repeat visitors and Ionas tended to make friends with them, thus encouraging those repeat visits. His marque is almost made, now level with his shoulder-blades.
Updates:
- Ionas has made his marque, completed just prior to his 23rd natale.
- At the age of 25, Ionas left Valerian to work at Pride's Fall, a job he loves as much as he did being at Valerian. Although moving into his own place has had its moments. He's not used to living alone, nor fending for himself.
- On a recent birthday, he was gifted a cat by Josephine Bisette, who he's named Xanthe.
