Character Avatar: Eros Vlahos

Character Name: Hugues 'Hughie Blackmore' Salaire
Age: 21
Rank/Title: Prince of Charms (not even close to being a real prince, he totally just made that up)
Race: D'Angeline
Country/Province: Terre d'Ange/L'Agnace

Player: Imaginos

Appearance/Personality:

Hughie is a charmer, plain and simple, though those two words are nothing at all to be used to describe any aspect of him. He's a musician (favoring the flute and zither), a traveler, wine expert (well, the consumption of wine), dabbler in alchemy and astrology, and a scholar (his own term, people would probably just call him 'a guy who reads a lot'). His personality is a fluid thing, some might say mercurial, sometimes light and laughing and sometimes moody and mired in his own mind. He is creative, though - few could deny that. Painting, sketching, even a little bit of clay work (though he really just likes the feel of it more than anything)...if he could settle down and focus on one aspect of study, he might have been considered a scholar in more than his own mind.

Should he grow up? Maybe, but there is a lot of fun to be had still.

Appearance-wise, he's d'Angeline through and through, with delicate, pretty features and a limber frame. His tapering fingers belong to an artist, as do the splotches of paint and blots of ink that are sometimes on his clothes and hands. Hair is a slightly-wavy, honeyed-gold color, and falls more often than not to his shoulders, though the length is variable depending on his mood. His eyes are a light, slate-grey-blue combo that is clear and easily reflects laughter. Couldn't grow a beard even if he wanted to.

History:

For starters, "Hughie Blackmore" isn't' even his real name. It's actually Hugues Salaire, though little more is said than that. He might even be lying about it, too. Either way, Hughie Blackmore it is. What prompted him to adopt such a 'stage name' isn't known to most people, though it was more likely due to the fact that having blatant d'Angeline features and attitudes and having a rather non-d'Angeline surname like 'Blackmore' was a contradiction, and few things make people more curious than a good contradiction.

Rather than dwell on what isn't known, it might be best to stick with what actually is. Hughie was born in L'Agnace, in the heart of the City of Elua herself. The grand and wondrous city left a cosmopolitan stamp on him that would never fade. As an artist, Hughie can easily appreciate the beauty of the open countryside, but he isn't likely to do without a good bath and a change of clothing, and perish the thought of going without a proper inn and alehouse.

And yet...

Sometimes, he gets the desire to just...go. Find a ship, pay her captain with coin or a song, and see new lands. Open sea. Green pastures, towering mountains. Hear and taste strange tongues. Maybe. Just think of the stories.

He grew up in a household wealthy enough to provide for a comfortable living, including a full education. Hughie learned his letters and penmanship, even showing his first inklings of musical talent as a toddler playing around on a recorder. His latter childhood and early teenage years were spent with far too many hours out on the street, with the kind of glibness and novelty that could only be felt by someone who didn't actually have to live on them. He ran around with his group of close friends, throwing stones and laughing about how one day they'd be rich enough to dine with princes and visit the Night Court. But they were formative years, too...he found his way into cabarets and bars of all variety, seeing the many forms of life that frequented them, listening to the music...ah, Elua, the music! The romance of the lone minstrel, plying his art...the flash of coin dropping in the hat at his feet, the sighs men and women taking them home after the close of the night...what a life. It could be his, too. He knew he had the talent.

Talent. What is it without drive, determination to do more than just get by? That's the true question, and one that plagues him to this day. Hughie is smart, glib, clever, creative...but what's he done with it? Yes, he can read and follow a treatise from a Hellene alchemist, understand the parts, the philosophy...but then what? Just another 'thing to know', added to the shelf of curios in his mind. Were he Siovalese, it might be enough to balm the thought that he's wasting his life.

Maybe.

Then again, there's the idea that a life lived is not a life wasted. He likes that idea a lot better.
