Appearance: Kelan's most noticeable feature is his eyes, they are not quite as dark as the Shahrizai's well known eyes, but they are close. If the light hits them right they almost seem to change color, lightening a few shades to steel blue. Though he has Shahrizai blood, it does not seem to touch his hair, which is a dark brown which lightens in the summer if he spends enough time outside. He seems slightly stalker than the average d'Angeline and he is shorter than many by a head, but he still holds their fine features in his face. His Dalriadan blood allows him to grow facial hair which he will sometimes wear neatly trimmed and short.
Personality: Kelan is a romantic at heart, like most Heliotropes, and unlike anyone else in his biological family. He has always felt like a bit of an outsider to the Shahrizai's more biting love. He also lacks any of the pride in masculinity or fighting often displayed by his Dalriadan blood. His mother had a deep love for his father and Kelan hopes to one day find someone that touches him as deeply. Though he knows he may some day be asked to manage his father's estate Kelan doesn't hold out much hope that the position will actually be his and instead he puts his all into his job as an adept. He doesn't want to stay an adept forever, hoping to find his one true love and start a family of his own. Until that time comes he plans on showing his Patrons the love that he hopes he will one day be able to give to that special someone.

History:Klan was born of a unlikely love between Keeva Ruaidhri of the Dalriada and the d'Angeline Garvin Shahrizai. The two meet in Kusheth when Keeva was a mere 17 and Garvin was in his early 20s. He was drawn to the boisterous and fiery redhead. Her family was in the city for only a few weeks, having sailed down from Dalriada to make trade. Garvin wooed Keeva and the two spend the two weeks that Keeva had in each other's arms. When Keeva's family left she returned with them, but with promises to seek out Garvin the next time her family travels to Kusheth for trade. These visits were a yearly thing and Keeva did just that the next time her family sailed south. Garvin was waiting, and much to his family's displeasure, spend every moment he could with the wild redhead. During their second visit he asked her to marry him, but she refused him, not wanting to be tied down to the life of a d'Angeline noble. She visited the next year and once again refused an offer of marriage, though she was more than happy to share his bed and professed a love for him. She left Kusheth this time with a slightly heart broken Garvin and a babe growing in her stomach.
Keeva was not able to make the journey the next year. Her little baby was too young, but she sent word to Garvin letting him know about their son, which she had named Kelan. Keeva followed the tradition of the Dalriada women, keeping the child to raise among the women and not expecting the father to send aid. She let him know that she would be back on the trade ship the next year and with the child in tow if he was healthy enough for it. During this two year gap in their relationship Garvin had meet and fallen in love with another, Apolline Shahrizai. She was a distant relative and his family encouraged their relationship hoping it would distract their, then, 25 year old son from the Dalriadan. Garvin held off any chance of a wedding, though, until he could see his Dalriadan love at least one more time.
Five years after they had first meet Keeva was in Kusheth once again and this time with a small boy strapped to her back. The fine d'Angeline features and his intense blue eyes hinted to Garvin's blood and he knew that the child was indeed his. She meet Garvin with all of the enthusiasm that she had in the past and introduced him to his young son. Garvin then told her about Apolline and was quite surprised when Keeva asked, in high spirits, if she could meet his new love. He introduced the two women and they got along far better than he could have hoped. Though Keeva still deeply loved Garvin, she also loved her freedom and she encouraged the two to wed. Not one to be limited to a single lover, Keeva was able to make her way into bed with both of the Shahrizai's. After much sweat, excitement, and blood the three of them created a polyandrous relationship of sorts.
Kelan grew up with his mother Keeva and the Dalriadan. Every year with Keeva's family traveled south he came with them to spend time with his Shahrizai kin.
Keeva had two more children after Kelan, one boy and one girl, though both fully Dalriadan. Apolline also lit a candle to Eisheth and had three children, all fathered by Garvin. They had two girls and a boy. Kelan was Eight years old when the little Shahrizai boy was born and much discussion was made among the extended family of which child should follow Garvin as the Comte of his lands.
While much of the debate had to do with Kelan's status of being a half blood, some of it was also due to his personality. While one might expect the offspring between a Shahrizai and a Dalriada to be fierce and strong, Kelan was everything but. He was a warm child from day one. He had no interest in the sword games of the other boys in the Dalriadan tribes and preferred instead to play with the girls or tend to various domesticated animals. There wasn't a sharp edge to his personality anywhere. He did not fit well when he was at home with his mother and only slightly better when visiting his father. Apolline's young daughters seemed to have more of a spine than the sweet little Kelan.
When Kelan was 9 years old and Keeva was visiting, the three adults spoke about the child and what to do with him. He was reaching an age where he would need to stay with his father if he was to be the male to inherit. However, Apolline had just had her young son and the rest of the family would be far more accepting of the full blood Shahrizai boy. Keeva would have been perfectly happy letting Kelan grow up fully as a Dalriada, but it was becoming more obvious with time that he did not have the personality for the rougher life. In the end they decided to simply do what would Kelan the happiest. He did best with a lot of love and affection, something he could possibly gain as an adept of the Night Court. Being more familiar with the Night Court, Garvin suggested Heliotrope and the odd family took a trip to the City of Eula to see how their son would fair there.
When they arrived at Heliotrope the story of Kelan's life was explained to the Dowayne as well as his sensitive nature. The Dowayne asked Kelan a few questions and thought he could be a possible fit for her house. He showed potential to develop into an attractive adult, and if not Heliotrope she figured she'd find a house to buy his marque. Due to the distance between the Night Court and Eire Kelan was left to spend one year as a fosterling at Heliotrope, which also allowed the Dowayne to decide if he truly was a fit there or elsewhere.
Though Kelan missed his family he did well at Heliotrope. He finally had kids who would play with him on his level. When time came for him to start his adept training he stayed and learned what it meant to be truly devoted to another, at least in theory. Kelan learned that there were many ways to love. While some of his family in Eire did not understand his mother's fascination with Garvin, Kalen did. He grew to appreciate his mother's love for his father as he grew and learned the ways of Naamah and decided that he wanted the same for himself. That one person that he could always go back to, no matter what.
Kelan flew his dove at 16 and entered into Naamah's servant. He treated each of his patron's as if they were his one and only. Some became repeat customers, though none were as perfect as the relationship between his parents seemed to be. Kelan was always a little bit sad when his patrons left and didn't return, but he knew that was life as an adept and he moved on and waited for the next. He is currently a little over halfway through his marque. Though he still has a ways to go, every time he has another inch added he's reminded of how many have come and gone, his one person still out there un-found.
