Appearance: Rousel doesn't really stand out from the crowd at first glance. Not overly tall or short (5'9), a fit body courtesy of a lifetime of manual labour. Angular features all in proportion with each other, but not overly striking by d'Angeline standards. Tousled brown hair that ranges from blonde to dark depending on how long he's been out in the sun, kept shortish for ease of care more than anything else, and the odd scar on his skin courtesy of the many fights he's found himself in.
However, Rousel does have one remarkable feature. His eyes. His right iris is blue, his left however, is dual coloured. The lower third of his left eye is reddish-brown and has often been confused for Kushiel's Mark - though that is not the case.
Personality: Rousel is a complicated man. His demeanour is that of a submissive man - eyes lowered, shoulders hunched, trying not to draw attention to himself - however that is not who he is. He just wants a quiet life and to be left alone. You would be forgiven for thinking that he has a quick temper and is quick with his fists, too, judging by the amount of fights he's been in, but again, that is more to do with his circumstances than his nature. He is sick to death of people making snap judgements about him and is not afraid of challenging those judgements with his fists if reason doesn't work first. He doesn't particularly like fighting, because his pain tolerance is awful - he gets a splinter and you'd be forgiven for thinking he's accidentally chopped off his limb by the way he acts - but he can and will fight if necessary, his Camaeline heritage making itself felt. He much prefers the company of animals than people, for they have never judged him, picked on him or tried to make him out to be something he's absolutely not.
History: Abandoned as a babe at the local Temple of Elua in Camlach, Rousel grew up as a lonely child. Picked on by the local children, shunned by adults too, Rousel was often made unwelcome. The Priests and Priestesses of the temple did what they could to protect him, though they, too, were unsure as to whether Kushiel had marked him as His own, at least to begin with. There were many reasons against Rousel being God-chosen though. For one, Rousel's mark was more brown than the vivid red and it covered far more of his iris than Phedre's mark. For another, Phedre still lived, and as far as records told, only one person had been chosen at a time, so why would two people be marked thusly? The most convincing was why He would select a small Camaeline male child, when most others had been women?
To be sure, they took the young Rousel to Kushiel's Temple and it was confirmed; whatever Rousel was, god-chosen he wasn't. However, the High Priestess of that temple, opted to keep Rousel there, whilst they studied him. His education was minimal, for he often ran away or the class was disrupted by someone picking on him - children being what they are - and he seemed to have no real inclination to learn, even when placed in isolation.
In time, Rousel left the Temple, wanting to make his own way in the world, though the boy was advised against it. Outside the protective walls of the Temple, Rousel found life much harder. He drifted in and out of jobs, in and out of fights and, subsequently, the local gaols, too. He became known as the local trouble-maker from time to time, and wherever he went there were people that either feared him or revered him - regardless of what he said or thought.
Finally, he ended up in Elua and managed to keep his nose clean long enough to land himself a job for one of the city's bakeries. Lifting sacks of flour, delivering orders and looking after the site's horses - generally being an all-round odd-job man. He's got a small pallet above the bakery's stables and he does his best to keep out of trouble...which is proving easier said than done.
