Character Name: Tariro Kayode
Age: 24
Rank/Title: Foreign Citizen
Race: Saban
Country/Province: L'Agnace
Townhome Request: Lives at Rosée du Matin Manoir
Player: Valerie
Appearance/Personality: Tariro is a stunning beauty, even for not having a drop of d'Angeline blood in her veins. Her five foot eight inch frame is composed of lean muscle and she moves with quiet grace. Though dark brown, her eyes are clear as colored glass. When not at a task, she lets her long black hair hang free.
Tariro is a quiet, gentle person who has never once thought to put herself before anyone else. She has no idea she is beautiful and seems puzzled when others mention it. Her voice is deeper than one would expect and her speech is heavily accented. Tariro smiles easily, but is shy about both that and laughing around other adults, tending to duck her head and cover her mouth with her fingers.
History: Tariro's life has been one of obedience, service, and caring for others. Born into indentured servitude for a family of very wealthy gem traders, Tariro's life has never been her own. She grew up quietly and diligently completing whatever chore was given to her. Her beauty was noticeable from an early age and was often remarked upon by guests of the family she served, but none remarked on it more than the master of the house. The mistress grew jealous and bitter about Tariro's beauty and sweet nature, but was not willing to give up the girl's service by casting her out. Instead, the mistress delighted in assigning Tariro the most difficult and disgusting tasks that she was capable of completing, all of which Tariro did with no complaint. It never occurred to Tariro to be angry or resent her mistress, for this was her life and she was to do whatever the mistress and master told her to do.
One of Tariro's favorite chores was helping out with the smaller children in the house. Her sweet, calm nature made her a favorite of all the children. Tariro would often collect sticks or seeds and carve them into toys or little bits of jewelry for the children.
As Tariro bloomed into a woman, her master's interest grew, though he never made a direct advance. When Tariro was seventeen, her master and mistress journeyed to Terre d'Ange to set up trade contracts. Her master insisted that Tariro be one of the servants that accompanied them, wanting to keep her near and show her off to those he was going to meet with. Tariro was overwhelmed by the City and all the new things she saw, trying to commit everything to memory so she could tell the children back home.
The traders were hosted by a d'Angeline family and Tariro easily slipped into being a servant in this new land. Her mistress however, more vengeful towards the girl than ever, began searching out new ways to punish Tariro. Upon learning of the Night Court and Mandrake House, a plan was born. The mistress arranged for an assignation with Gregoire no' Mandrake, one in which she would watch while Gre used his skills on Tariro. No intense physical punishment was arranged, this was all to be debasement and shame. Tariro, still not understanding that her mistress harbored her any ill will, agreed to what she thought was just serving someone else for a time. Never once during the assignation did Tariro complain or refuse to comply, even when she realized that this man she had never met before was going to take her virginity. Tariro did not understand what was happening, or why her mistress seemed so delighted in what Tariro was going through, but she did know that she must never embarrass or dishonor those she worked for and thus she went along with everything as if she was happy with the situation.
The traders lingered in the City of Elua for three more months, solidifying deals and making new contacts. By the time they were preparing to return home, it was obvious that Tariro was pregnant. Much to his wife's delight, the master was furious at the girl and refused to bring her home with them. Thus, Tariro was left in place where she barely spoke the language and had no way to support herself. Fortunately, the family that had hosted the trading party had grown fond of Tariro and took her into their employ. Six months later Zayna was born, healthy and happy. Never had Tariro been so happy, the little girl was the center of her world.
Mother and daughter continued to stay with the family, Tariro working and Zayna growing into an enchanting creature who won the hearts of everyone she met. When Zayna was three, she began to ask about her own father, for Tariro never spoke of him. Unsure how to answer her daughter's queries about why she didn't have a father like the other children she knew, Tariro gathered her courage and went to Mandrake to seek out Gregoire. There she discovered that not only had Gre left Mandrake, but that he had gained a noble title and an estate. Unable to live with disappointing her daughter or lying to her about her father, Tariro sought out Gre at his new residence.
Tariro and Zayna are now living with Gregoire Duchamp and his fiance Noe no Duchamp. Things are still uncertain between the adults, but it is obvious they all love Zayna and for her they are trying to work things out.
