Appearance: Hernando isn't as tall as the majority of D'Angeline men, but he's still fit and good looking. He possesses broad-shoulders and a reasonably muscular body, with his arms, legs, and torso covered in dark hair. His skin has an olive complexion and he tans very easily. His eyes are a dark brown and they are surrounded by smile lines, for he loves to laugh and is generally a happy soul. His dark hair is now peppered with grey, as is the stubble that oft covers his strong square jaw.

Personality: Laissez faire could be a term deliberately coined to describe Hernando. He's sailed through life without any real ambition, content to just let events happen as they will. That isn't to say he isn't without his passions. He has fierce passion and love for his family, as well as for his hobbies - which mostly revolve around collecting things; books, antiques, trinkets etc - in fact, the house is filled with his knick-knacks.
His family is his pride and joy, and though he doesn't generally get too involved in their lives as a whole, he's affectionate and loving, and extremely proud of them.
He's generally a very positive person, believing everything will turn out well eventually, and he cannot be trusted to make a decision this side of the century. Which is why he let his beloved wife take over all the decision-making in their family. Anything for a quiet life.
In fact, because he's so laid back and his wife... wasn't... it wasn't unusual for people to assume that Roselle was the Aragonian and Hernando was the D'Angeline in their relationship, which gave him much pride and amusement.
Another thing to note, is that Hernando can get lost on a one way street. Rosalie used to joke that it's a wonder he found her again.

History:
Hernando's childhood was the usual fare; born and brought up in a large loving family, wanting for little, and well-educated. He wasn't the eldest so wasn't required to learn how to manage the estate, as such he was generally left to his own devices for the most part - living his life with no great ambition or aim.
His life took a turn for the interesting when, on a family holiday, he met and fell hard for a young D'Angeline noblewoman by the name of Roselle Gérard. Their courtship was quick, passionate and the love they shared was utterly mutual. However, Hernando had to return to Aragonia and Roselle to her home in Terre D'Ange, so their passion was banked for a little while, with the relationship kept alive through letters.
Eventually, in a sudden surge of (rare) impulsive decision-making that seems to afflict the young, Hernando packed up his things, left his home and family, and moved wholesale to Terre D'Ange - proposing to Roselle as soon as he saw her. She, happily, accepted and the two began setting a life up for themselves - getting married as soon as they could arrange it with their respective families. Given Roselle was D'Angeline, with all that it implies, they agreed to an arrangement where she could dally with whomsoever she pleased, as long as she didn't bring them home, and he stayed faithful to her. He certainly felt no need to take another to his bed, when his wife was all that he ever desired or wanted. Oh he could appreciate other women, and was tempted a time or two, but never strayed from their marital bed.
In time, they had children - two bright and beautiful daughters - and aside from the usual family stresses and quibbles, they were content with their life. Hernando and Roselle remained very, very much in love, almost like newly-weds - Hernando not missing an opportunity to praise his wife. Roselle kept the family organised and took pride in arranging events and ensuring their girls got the best education they could afford.
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, and this happened with the untimely death of Roselle after a brief illness - indeed, no one thought that she had been that ill, but Hernando woke one morn to find his beloved dead beside him. He was stricken by grief, but tried to keep it together for his daughters. Though, truth be told, he was lost without his light. Roselle had habitually arranged everything, and he'd been so content to let her, that there was a lot he had to learn anew.
Now Hernando is trying his best to get involved in his daughters' lives - taking up the role Roselle had in the best way that he can. Trying to make her hopes for an advantageous marriage for both of them a reality, though he's not the first clue about how to go about it.
