Character Avatar: Gwendoline Christie
Player: Janet
Character Name: Birgitta Hjorth
Age: 45
Birthday: 28th October 1978
Height: 6’3
Rank/Title: Physician
Race: Gotlander
Country/Province: Gotland
Townhome Request: small apartment in the Southern Bay part of the South District
Country Home Request: N/A
Appearance: Tall! There is no disguising that Birgitta is taller than most of the men and women she encounters, and she has grown (ha!) very used to this and the reactions that it garners. She makes no attempt at hiding her full height, she does not slouch and she enjoys wearing heels when the opportunity is afforded to her.
Her physique is not particularly curvaceous, but she’s fit and healthy, and keeps herself trim and in shape in so much as she can.
She has very fair skin, and her wavy blonde hair is often kept shoulder length and styled away from her face with clips and ties. Deep blue/grey eyes gaze upon the world with intelligent curiosity, with a healthy dose of pragmatism and humour mixed in. Her mouth is often spread wide in a beaming smile that lights up her entire features. Her laugh is loud and unrestrained, no one is left in any doubt when she’s amused.

Personality: Birgitta is a driven and pragmatic woman. She is often torn between wanting to bury herself in books, and involving herself in more practical studies. If she could figure out a way of how to interact with people and read a book at the same time without detriment to either, she’d be a very happy woman.
As it is, she’s fairly content with her life and wants to learn as much as she can for as long as she can. She’s proud of her heritage, of her country, and of her stature.
She’s fairly good natured and quick to find the humour in a situation, but able to keep a calm and professional facade when required. What displeases her most are people that ignore or fail to follow very clear instructions. That is one way to lose her favour.

History:
Birgitta was born into a fairly well to do family. She has an older sister and a younger brother, close enough in age to develop the usual sibling rivalries, but also be fairly supportive of each other. Gotland had a fairly decent education system so all children were enrolled on school, with the exception of those that slipped through the cracks of society or lived too far to attend one. This did not apply to Birgitta’s family, all children were educated – learning their letters and numbers, history, geography and so on, with the option of learning the languages of the surrounding countries.
Birgitta’s love of learning was quick to ignite and has yet to fade into embers. Fascinated by the human condition and physiology, she had wanted to be a physician for as long as she can recall. So when she left school with the rest of her year group, she sought an apprenticeship with the local physician. Once she felt she’d learned all she could from him, she began to travel. First exploring her own country and the medical establishments there -meeting her husband, Leif, at one of them- and then both of them traveling further afield together. Hellas, Caerdicci Unitas, Terre D’Ange and even Alba. She was convinced that there were better ways or just different ways, to heal people. Her knack for languages served her in good stead, and her husband often lovingly groused at the amount of books she insisted on hauling around with them. Despite his grousing, Leif adored Birgitta, and she him. It had been a slow-burn romance which kindled into a deep and abiding love for one another.
Eventually they settled down, returning to Gotland, starting their own surgery in a town midway between Leif’s childhood town and Birgitta’s and talking about children, though they weren’t blessed with one (to Birgitta’s secret relief. It had been Leif’s desire but Birgitta hadn’t been so enthused – though she’d agreed that they try for the love of him).
They’d been married a little over twelve years when her husband passed away. Dropping dead suddenly at the home of a patient, no rhyme nor reason as to why such a thing would happen. He’d been, or so they thought, a perfectly healthy man. Always practising what he preached. After a long period of mourning, Birgitta eventually sold their home, passed the job of town physician to someone else, packed up, and began travelling anew. Seeking out new cures and methods of treatment and so on, and taking the memory of her beloved husband with her.
